Here at Rockwell Catering and Events, we have been a presence on the catering scene in Utah Valley for nearly 10 years. In fact, our 10 year anniversary is next June! Go us! In that time, we have become pretty familiar with the unique wedding scene here in Utah. We know what makes for a great event and how to create an atmosphere that isn’t just memorable but also cost-effective. This knowledge can only come with experience. You can’t learn these kinds of things in culinary school or in a hospitality course. It’s only going to happen with hands on work. Here’s the good news, we have all that knowledge and we are ready to apply it to your wedding. Here are 3 surprising ways to create a memorable wedding.
#1 Forgo the Little Things
I know, it doesn’t seem to make sense to say forget the little details. But really when you think about it, you don’t wait to distract from the things that actually matter to you. Zero in on what you want the focus to be and stay the course on that. For example, choose one main centerpiece instead of a few. Donut walls are a popular trend right now, so if you want to go that route, go all out. Don’t add another big feature like a chalkboard wall or dessert bar. When it comes to catering in Utah Valley, you want to keep themes focused and not frilly. It’s quality over quantity!
#2 Choose Either Classic or Unique- Not In Between
If you are looking to leave an impact, you need to swing to one side or the other. Choose a theme that is classic, such as white flowers and black tuxedo and bow tie. Or take it super unique like jewel tones and a simple cream colored wedding dress. If you want people to leave your event, give them a defined sense of what you wanted to achieve. Catering in Utah Valley can seem very repetitive. There are plenty of weddings that are just…. weddings. They aren’t remarkable or thrilling. Think of ice cream. There is plenty of flavors, make your wedding either a rich vanilla bean or a wild blueberry chocolate balsamic! Either one is something that leaves an aftertaste you won’t forget. Think of your wedding in those terms.
#3 It’s All in the Favors
Wedding favors are often an afterthought. Just a quick thing thrown together at the end of wedding planning. But flip that and try having that be the first thing you work on. You will find the favor can really guide your theme planning. And if the favor is something useful, they will always remember your wedding and the great time they had there. For example, we recently catered a wedding at a private ranch near Zions National Park. There were fire pits throughout the ranch for guests to sit around and enjoy. And each guest was given a simple fleece blanket with a small message from the bride and groom. The blanket will be used for years to come and anytime someone uses it, they will remember that wedding and how great it was so sit around the fire with friends and family and enjoy the evening. Try giving some extra thought to your wedding favors. It might be just the thing that takes your event from “meh” to MEMORABLE!
